    01Core Capability

Leadership that holds both sides of the table

Three capability blocks make up a fractional CTO engagement: the strategy the board signs off on, the architecture that carries it, and the innovation layer that keeps it competitive.

    L—01

    Strategic CTO Leadership

The layer most scale-ups are missing: someone who can hold the technical strategy and the business case in the same conversation.

    02Track Record

    Outcomes, not activity

Engineering leadership is only credible when it shows up in delivery time, cost of ownership and team capability. These are the numbers behind the last twelve years.

    Enterprise platform re-architecture

Multi-product SaaS · Future Dev Solutions

    Situation

A monolithic delivery model was blocking parallel work — every release was a coordination event and the team could not ship independently.

    Intervention

Broke the estate into service boundaries on .NET, Next.js and AngularJS, defined ownership per domain, and put CI/CD on Docker and Kubernetes.

    Outcome

    • 40% reduction in release cycle time
    • Independent deploys per squad

    Technology services

    Situation

Headcount was growing faster than the standards around it — quality and review discipline varied team to team.

    Intervention

Set engineering governance: code quality gates, review standards, delivery frameworks and a technical career ladder across 24 engineers.

    Outcome

    • 24 engineers under one delivery standard

    Mission-critical support operations

    Enterprise CX · Clearview Pro

    Situation

A multi-lingual platform used by major automotive brands needed incident handling that met contractual SLA commitments.

    Intervention

Led production support operations, restructured incident and change-request flow, and migrated email delivery to SparkPost for reliability at scale.

    Outcome

    • SLA-aligned incident response
    • Higher email deliverability across client comms

    03Engagement Models

Buy the judgement, not the headcount

A full-time CTO is a seven-figure commitment before equity. These are scoped, time-boxed ways to get the same decision quality — with a defined deliverable at the end of each.

    Typical entry point

Most engagements start with an Architecture Audit and convert to a retainer once the roadmap is agreed.

    S—01

    Tech Roadmap Development

A sequenced 6–18 month technology plan tied to commercial milestones, with the trade-offs written down rather than assumed.

    • Current-state architecture map
    • Prioritised roadmap with cost model
    • Build vs. buy recommendations
    • Hiring plan aligned to delivery
    4–6 week engagement
    S—02

    Architecture Audit

An unsentimental review of the system you actually have — scalability ceilings, security posture, and what breaks first under growth.

    • Architecture & code-health report
    • Scalability and failure-mode analysis
    • Security & governance gaps
    • Ranked remediation backlog
    2–3 week sprint
    S—03

    Pre-Investment Due Diligence

Technical diligence for investors and acquirers: what the asset is really worth, what it will cost to hold, and where the risk sits.

    • Codebase & architecture assessment
    • Team capability review
    • Technical debt & risk register
    • Investor-ready summary memo
    1–2 week turnaround
    S—04

    Leadership Coaching

Growing your first engineering managers, or a senior IC stepping into a head-of role — structured coaching, not vague mentorship.

    • 1:1 coaching cadence
    • Delivery & performance frameworks
    • Escalation and on-call design
    • Succession planning for key roles

    Fractional CTO Retainer

Standing technical leadership without a full-time hire — in your leadership meetings, accountable for the engineering outcome.

    • Board & leadership representation
    • Architecture sign-off
    • Vendor and contract review
    • Continuous roadmap ownership
    2–4 days / month
    S—06

    AI Integration Sprint

Find the workflows where LLMs pay for themselves, ship one end-to-end, and leave your team able to run the next one.

    • AI opportunity assessment
    • One production integration
    • Data & evaluation pipeline
    • Cost and guardrail model
    3–5 week sprint

    Not sure which one

A 30-minute call is usually enough to tell you whether you need a fractional CTO or something cheaper.

    04Operating Philosophy

The view from co-founder, not consultant

I run an engineering organisation of my own. Everything I advise on is something I am accountable for somewhere else on Monday.

I started as a research engineer writing audio watermarking algorithms. Twelve years later I co-founded Future Dev Solutions and spend my time on a different problem: making sure the technology decisions a business makes today are still survivable in three years.

Most scale-ups do not need another senior engineer. They need someone who can look at a roadmap, a burn rate and an architecture diagram at the same time and say which one is lying. That is the work I do as a fractional CTO — governance, architecture, and the unglamorous discipline of shipping predictably.

At Future Dev Solutions I lead the design of microservice architectures across .NET, Next.js and AngularJS estates, run CI/CD on Docker and Kubernetes, and set the delivery standards a 24-engineer organisation runs on. I bring that same operating model into client engagements.

    Leadership principles
    P—01

    Architecture is a business decision

Every technical choice has a cost of ownership, a hiring implication and a ceiling. Boards deserve to see those in the same terms as any other investment.

    P—02

    Governance before velocity

Speed without standards produces rework. Quality gates, ownership and clear SLAs are what let a team move fast for more than one quarter.

    P—03

    Build teams, not dependencies

A fractional CTO who becomes load-bearing has failed. The goal is an engineering org that runs the standard after I step back.

    P—04

AI where it earns its keep

Automate the workflows with measurable throughput cost. Everything else is a demo, and demos do not compound.

    05Career Ledger

    Twelve years of production accountability
